Hout Bay & Cape Town Sea Kayak Excursions (25/2/2010)
Real Cape Adventures CC, Africa's premier sea kayak tour company, is set to launch from its new premises in Hout Bay [a tiny deck in front of Mariner's Wharf on the harbourside of the beach] shortly. Get there from the city with the Red Bus which stops right next to it. Hout Bay is ideal for sea kayaking as it is protected by mountains on all sides, forming a natural amphitheatre. Paddling in the bay gives a special perspective of Cape Town; a view that visitors from around the world hold dear. Paddling here is one of the must-do activities when visiting the mother city, indeed, if you only do one trip, make this the one! The guided trips are suitable for all normally healthy persons regardless of any paddling experience. The Real Cape Adventures site has been carefully selected to make launching, paddling and landing a relaxed, no-stress affair. In the bay you are likely to spot an array of sea birds and seals and if you are lucky, dolphins and whales [the latter from July to October], but the main attraction is the environment itself and watching life go by, the living harbour, the fishing boats, the yachts and other ocean users, all showing Cape Town's real and traditional character which is based on an ocean and beach culture. Get away from your busy schedule and come and relax on our very stable double sea kayaks. Take a break, wallow on the smooth waters of the bay, take a breath of fresh Atlantic sea air and be rejuvenated. Daily departures for one, or two hour trips, mostly early mornings. A three hour trip, for the more experienced, takes you to Duiker ["Seal"] Island in the vicinity of Dungeons, one of the world's largest surfing waves [but absolutely flat when we go]. After your trip you can enjoy exploring the harbour on foot, visit the World of Birds and Constantia Wine Farm, all within minutes of the beach, or you can take the world class drive round Chapman's Peak towards remote Noordhoek and the Cape of Good Hope.
